Incorrect Information on Your Credit Report


 

As you read through your credit report, you may find incorrect or misleading information. Common errors include the followings:

  • Incorrect or incomplete name, address, phone number, social security number or employment information
  • Accounts which is not yours
  • Incorrect account histories--such as late payments when you paid on tile
  • Closed accounts listed as open (this may look as if you have too much open credit)
  • Accounts listed more than once
  • Any account you closed that doesn't say "closed by consumer"
  • Lawsuits in which you were not involved
  • Bankruptcies not identified by their specific chapter number
